A quick rundown on War Driving can be found here. Basically it involves cruising around in a car looking for wireless networks. If you don't know what a wireless network is then you truly are a sad sad individual. Some of these networks are secured whilst others are unsecured. However, don't let the word 'secured' fool you. The cracking of such networks is not exactly hard and only requires a bit of processing time.

If you're a professional you're supposed to use a pringles can and spend ages wiring the thing. But we're not professionals, and pringles are expensive, so we just cruise around with a laptop and a wi-fi card and hope to get lucky.

Which begs the question: which city is enjoying the pleasure of our war driving? None other than the home of Tainui, 48 May, the Datsuns, the Rocky Horror Picture Show, and the Fieldays. If that sounds like a weird combination it's because it comes from one of the weirdest places on earth: Hamiltron (nicknamed 'Hamilton' by the government).

We have made it our mission to locate every Wi-Fi Hotspot in Hamiltron. Every hotspot we identify, where we found it, and how strong the signal is, will be noted in this blog. We will also note down whether it is secured or unsecured and whether internet access is possible.

Our wardriving journeys start near Orchard Park at the University of Waikato. We wardrive for as long as our laptops last which is around about about 2 hours.

See! Everyone wins from WarDriving. We win via the thrill of the chase, readers win as they now know where they can get access to the internet, wi-fi owners win as those who are security conscious get a rude shock when their lack of security is revealed....& Chen wins as she gets to sleep!!

Incidentally. That was one long nap.. we were using another laptop (not my own) at the time and it had about 4 hours battery life.

Chen was asleep for at least 2 of those hours :)
